In 1970, Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa visited His followers in England and a procession was held in the streets of Central London, culminating in a service and religious dance and music concert in Trafalgar Square. A Scottish pipe band was hired to lead the procession, and His Holiness Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa, upon hearing the pipe music liked the sound very much. At the special request of Jeevanpran Swamibapa and with his blessings the devotees of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan in London, formed Shree Muktajeevan Pipe Band in his honour. Similarly the devotees of the Sansthan in Nairobi (Kenya) and New Jersey (USA) also formed Pipe Bands.
In 2002, with the divine blessings of Acharya Swamishree the devotees of Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, Bolton also established their own pipe band, Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Pipe Band. The function of the pipe band is primarily to play at the major festivals and charitable events sponsored by Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan. The band also performs at public festivals and fund raising events.

The band's musical repertoire comprises not only of Scottish pipe music, but also Indian melodies, bhajans, and original tunes composed by band members. Members of the band transpose newly released Hindi film songs and set them onto the bagpipe scale.
Despite being accomplished musicians, the band members all keenly offer their services to the band without any wish of pay or redemption for their time and effort. They all willingly give up their valuable time to attend weekly practices at the Bolton Temple. The members' only aim is to please Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree, and through this devotion (bhakti), attain their divine blessings.
